Diego had been asleep, yes, but woke up pretty much as soon as the door opened. It took him all of about 5 seconds to recognize Annie's (sneaky) footsteps, so he let go of the pillow knife and relaxed some.

And still kept his eyes closed. Sometimes it was fun to let Annie think she was being sneaky.
