Since both their boyfriends Steve and Diego were off in Baltimore attempting to prove that they could enjoy each other's company without anything blowing up, it was only fair that Annie and Danny were hanging out with a bottle of wine.

Given that they didn't have anything to prove here re: explosions and gunfire, it was a fairly chill time, though Annie had also brought her first aid kit downstairs to compare it to Danny's and make sure everything was stocked up.

Because, you know. Steve and Diego. Just saying.

"So if they come in all injured, do we win?" Annie wondered aloud, swirling her wine around in her glass thoughtfully. "Because we're right? Or do we lose because they're hurt?"

Annie was leaning towards the second, but she also had a very strong I told you so instinct, so that was a factor, too.

"We win because they're both morons," Danny replied with a firm nod. Those idiots were so glad they loved them, really.

"They'll probably be all bummed out if nothing happens," Annie agreed. "Like, triumphant, because we were wrong, but also secretly sad they didn't get to deal with an exotic turtle smuggler or whatever."

"Having worked with Steve for almost four years now, I assure you he'll find a way to get into trouble," Danny said, gesturing broadly with his wineglass.

"At least I think Diego knows he's in trouble with me if he does anything dumb on purpose," she added. Because this was so not the week to fuck with her and go get himself shot doing something stupid and preventable. "Maybe he can rein Steve in."

That sure seemed optimistic.

It was sweet how she thought that.

"That's a hope," he agreed. "Let's just say it's nice to have some other company around, though."

"It's nice to focus on something besides my audition," Annie said in return, raising her glass. (Which would be her only glass tonight, unless that changed, but at least right now she was telling herself that.) "Steve getting on your nerves?"

She could see it. Diego very rarely (surprisingly rarely) got on hers, but they didn't live together (technically), and they also had ways to -- you know. Mitigate any irritation when it happened.

"Don't get me wrong, I love the guy, but distance is good every once in a while." Especially after that one weekend. "But you? You're gonna do great."

He had full confidence in it.

Annie waved a hand, more casual than she felt about it. (The wine was kind of helping, honestly.) "I hope so," she replied, because she still had to lose a couple pounds and get her mile time a few seconds lower before she'd feel super confident about it, but she was relatively optimistic about her chances. Still had a whole week to mess it up, though. "I mean, it'll mean a lot of distance, if I get it, so I hope you're right."

"You're both sort of in the business, at least. Which means he'll understand the whole deal," Danny pointed out.

You would think. Diego would probably take a lot fewer selfies with fans in his line of work.

"Of course, so that helps," Annie agreed. "And I'll get back here, like, all the time if I get it." The Seven had families and stuff -- at least, she knew Translucent did -- so they must get free time on the weekends or whatever.

"So you're not losing your wait-up-and-see-who-got-shot buddy, either," she added with a smile.

"Thank god for that," he teased dryly. "I'll do my best to keep them out of trouble while you're gone, but it hasn't worked on Steve yet."

"Maybe he needs an incentive," Annie offered, teasing. "Like a big sign that says 'X many days since Steve got shot at' and he gets a sticker every day the number is over ten."

Danny snorted at that, shaking his head. "I might end up trying that, you know."

"The sticker system worked on me when I was little," Annie admitted. "Like I got to put a sticker on every day on a calendar I trained. It can be pretty compelling."

Maybe they could find little explosion-shaped stickers.

"Maybe some Navy themed stickers?" Danny, no.

"I'm sure they make motivational Navy stickers," Annie agreed. "Little pennants that say 'Anchors aweigh!' or whatever the Navy says instead of Semper Fi."

She had no idea.

Danny snickered into his wine glass at that. "Please, please say that to Steve's face sometime. For me. It drives him nuts whenever I 'forget' he's in the Navy and name another of the armed forces."

"So I should definitely pretend to confuse the Navy with the Coast Guard?" Annie suggested, her smile broadening. "It's not like I've got a real firm grasp on the difference, anyway."

Steve could probably clear that up, actually, but this was funnier.

"Film that!" Do it for him, Annie. Please.

"Diego's gotten pretty good with his phone camera," Annie noted, thinking it would be suspicious if she was holding up a phone for an obvious reaction video when she asked Steve this egregiously thoughtless question. "I can make this happen."

"You're my favorite now," Danny assured her.

[defenderofdesmoines]

"I'll end it by saying 'Oorah' and trying for a high-five," Annie promised. "And then I'll have to go somewhere really important so there's no opportunity to, like, lecture me on the armed forces for an hour or whatever."

Truly devious.

"Of course, then you have to deal with the fallout there," she added, tapping the stem of her wineglass thoughtfully.

"Story of my life," he muttered, taking a sip.

"Things are good in the Williams-McGarrett household?" Annie checked, lifting a brow. "Aside from needing a little space for the night and all."

Look, Danny and Steve were kind of her best model for a healthy relationship these days. She was invested.

"Yeah, it's all the usual," Danny assured her. Then sort of considered it with a slight wince. "That one weekend was a bit... much."
