It was a Christmas miracle: an even tackier, way-too-early ugly sweater party.

With way, way too much alcohol, and a kinda ridiculous number of activities.

There were, of course, the ubiquitous plastic snowmen haunting (almost) every corner of the apartment, and one out on each of the Smokers' Balconies for good measure. There were strings of lights lining the ceiling, as well as tracing the edges of each window. There were cookies to decorate (and eat, because you definitely should eat, and there were moddable snacks aplenty as well.) While there was, of course, Christmas music playing, those with keen eyes (or at least, enough wherewithal to look around an apartment before you started potentially drinking heavily in it) might spot a karaoke machine that would come out later. One particularly tinsel-y corner had an abundance of Santa hats and reindeer antlers and wearable strings of lights to wear while taking photos, and in the guest room -- of course -- there was a much-fabled craft table, where you could make an ornament that didn't have to be in an immature shape, but definitely could be.

There was also, hovering slowly through the party, a drone with mistletoe dangling from it. A Mistle Drone, one might call it, even.

And, because this was the Christmas Rager, there was alcohol. There was so, so, so much alcohol. The kegs of Christmas ale had once been reordered, there was a Make Your Own hot chocolate and coffee bar, and while Annie would never argue that Summer's shot table wasn't the star of every party...this year was a little different. Mostly because of how they'd decided to serve Annie's punch: in a freestanding bathtub, just slightly off-center from the room.

Welcome to the third annual Christmas Rager. Hope you wore a sweater, because the hostesses both have glitter cannons in case you didn't show up festive enough!

“Any time,” Margo said, and she would have patted his arm if she had her hands free.

She would soon enough, anyway. They were at the drinks. “Someone’s got to look after you adorable nerds.” Beat. “Usually not me, but I like you.”

Stark smiled a little shyly in response. "I do need looking after sometimes. Thank you."

“You’re welcome,” Margo said dismissively. She set one bottle down and yanked-and-twisted the top off of the other. Then, with absolutely no fanfare, she poured a healthy helping into a red solo cup.

“There you go.”

"You're having some too?" Stark checked as he accepted his cup. "I don't want to drink babies alone."

Not real babies. This was not Snowpiercer.

"Thank you, Margo.

“Oh, I guess I can pour another one,” Margo said.

This would’ve sounded more reluctant if she hadn’t already been pouring.

"It's better than having a drink alone, isn't it?"

Not that Stark had done a lot of that earlier this year. Oh wait. He totally had.

“I mean, I think all that shit about how drinking alone is some kinda red flag is overrated,” Margo said.

Just look at Eliot, who tended to surround himself with people at almost all times and drank an excessive amount while doing it!

“I’m gonna hang out here with you no matter what.”

She took a sip.

"It's just better not being alone." Never mind that they were literally surrounded by other people, most of whom were drinking as well.

"I'm happy for the company. And the drink," he added, taking a sip.

“Depends on who you’re spending your time with,” Margo commented, on that first part. She lifted her cup. “Cheers.”

"I'm not sure there's anyone here who's company I object to," Stark said, looking around. "Though I don't know that everyone would say the same of me. I try not to be objectionable, at least."

“Oh, don’t fucking say something like that,” Margo said, pulling a face. “You’re gonna depress me.”

"Sorry," Stark said quickly. "But see? Not always good company."

“They really gotta figure out how to use magic to make a liquid shot of self-esteem,” Margo said. She shook her head, and reached for the bottle. “Here, have more bellini.”

Stark nodded and held out his cup. "If you find a magic shot for that I promise to drink it."
