Kleinfeld, Annie's Manhattan | Thursday Afternoon

Annie was trying to be more excited than nervous today, but no matter what, the two were kind of co-mingling anyway. She might -- hopefully? -- get her wedding dress today! And she'd be filming an episode of television in the process, but whatever, that was just work, right?

And she was bringing Diego's sister. And her Fandom friends. And Maeve.

It would be fine.

And if she kept saying it would be fine, then it would be!

In any case, they were here -- along with a film crew, a gal who was not being shy at all about touching up makeup, Annie's boss Ashley (and her ubiquitous clipboard), and a bridal consultant who seemed torn between being thrilled at her big break and also like she might throw up.

"It's not too late to save yourself," Annie offered in a stage whisper when Ashley was occupied. "There's so many sequins in here, Summer. We're never going to not sparkle again."

Maybe not a problem for all of them, but.

"The day I need saving from sparkles is going to be a very sad day, indeed," Summer declared, passing a grin over to Annie. "Though, I gotta admit, if anywhere's going to do it, it just might be here."

And then, after a moment of eyes bouncing around the room and taking note of what the production side of things was all occupied with, she asked, "How you feeling, though? You good?"

"I'm good," Annie assured her, blowing out a little nerve-steeling breath. "This is -- like, I'm kind of having a hard time understanding why someone would go to all this trouble to buy a dress like this if they don't have a situation like mine?"

Like, there were...non-superpowered, non-nationally-celebrated women who made appointments here and willfully tried on clothes on TV, on purpose.

"But I'm at least used to it." Seriously, this was nothing compared to the red carpet she'd have to deal with next week for Dawn of the Seven. "And you're good?"

Summer was not the one she was going to primarily worry about in that regard, but a check-in never hurt anyone.

"It's the adrenaline," said Summer, with an assured nod, because she was definitely a non-superpowered, non-nationally-celebrated (although with how many times she'd saved her world, she should be!) woman who would definitely willfully try on all these clothes, on purpose, on TV, and then some. "The prestige. The drama. The attention and the fact that it's a socially accepted form of playing dress-up for adults. I so get it."

And if it might be turning her own head toward maybe one day actually doing this for herself, too....weeellll, theeeen......

"So, yeah," she grinned at Annie again, lifted her champagne flute in salute, "I'm definitely good. I'm pretty much the last person you need to worry about here."

Unless that worry was that she might forget who they were shopping for when looking through the dresses.

Ahem.

Honestly, if she did that it was just going to result in Annie practically pitching her bouquet at Summer, come October.

"And at least Ashley probably has a pretty vested interest in my looking good," Annie added, a little cynical for her. "No one's gonna want to get me out in front of a camera with my boobs askew, right?"

Summer, please don't let them shoot her with her boobs askew.

Annie perfecting her bouquet aim was really just a great idea to spare any poor soul who just happened to have been in Summer's way, if it got to that point.

"I'm pretty sure your boobs are far too perfect to ever be askew," she informed Annie with confidence, especially since her own were definitely at least a little bit askew thanks to that time she tried to use Rick's englarging ray to make them bigger for prom and then disaster followed, "but even if they did decide to go all wonky, then that just means askew boobs will be all the rage next fall."

Which, honestly, she could be down for. See: previous fiascos with enlarging rays.

"See, that's both comforting and also enough to make sure that I'm for sure going with something with straps or sleeves or just...general chest protective measures," Annie decided. "It's probably too much to hope for pockets, but Diego'll probably have, like, fifty, so I can borrow his if I strike out there."

She honestly expected him to have extra pockets sewed into his suit (or tux? She did not care) jacket for knives, anyway. He could also hold her tissues and lipstick and phone.

"I feel like you've got more than enough cred," Summer pointed out, "to be able to demand pockets, which is, I believe, easily one of the most acceptable terms to be a raging Bridezilla about. But I've already locked in on pockets for myself, too, so there's a few more at your disposal."

"I just don't want it to be a thing where it ruins the dress," Annie admitted. "Though you're right that I could demand stuff. I mean, I could just like demand a table for my belongings at the reception, too. That seems to be the thing about being the bride."

She hadn't really seen a reason to exercise those powers yet, but it was good to know she had them.

"I blame BB-8 being around lately entirely for this," said Summer, after a moment of blinking at imagining such a table, "but you should totally just have an adorable robot following you around with your stuff."

She felt she could also blame her current setting/situation, all this fashion and over-the-topness was just bound to get those elaborate wheels in her head turning.

"Oh my God, like a robot assistant." Annie's eyes were huge at the idea, because that was great. "Diego's mom was an android, too, so there's kind of a tie-in in a way."

Though they did not have any other robots on that side of the family, to her knowledge.

Or hers, for that matter. (...to her knowledge.)

"....did I know Diego's mom was an android?" asked Summer, blinking, because she felt like that was something she would have remembered, and was it weird that she was a little irritated that having an android mother easily blew having a cloned mother right out of the park on the weirdness factor? Like, geez, guys, you really were going to make her work for it now, weren't you?

"Adoptive mom, anyway," Annie clarified, because she really had no idea about Diego's bio-family but she assumed they had been humans. (Probably ought to check on that before thinking about kids, yikes.) "But yeah. Really sweet robot lady his dad built to raise the kids. I made cookies with her when we went for his funeral."

And then Annie had met the woman that robot's likeness had been based upon back in 1963, which hadn't been weird at all, don't worry!

(It was also kind of Annie's fault if there were paradox problems resulting from telling that Grace that Reginald was a bad person.)

"I mean, that's kind of awww, but also, like, major yikes, too," Summer said, her head tilting a little bit as more nuances seemed to form in her brain the longer she thought about it. "But, then again, we once had a butter robot that started to question its existential purpose in life that lead to dogs gaining sentience and taking over the Earth once, so that's the kind of perspective I'm coming from. And now I'm wondering if having, like, a robot assistant would somehow be, you know...offensive."

"I mean," Annie said, actually considering that probably more than was strictly necessary because robot feelings seemed pretty important if you wanted to prevent an uprising, "like, Grace -- their robot mom -- was built to nurture these kids so I think she enjoyed it, but if I'm interpreting 'butter robot' right then that probably was part of the problem."

Robot that passed butter, right? Obviously.

"So maybe if it was a robot assistant that chose it. Like, it loves weddings or something." A romantic robot.
