Twenty-four days.

Invitations were out. The alterations of Annie's wedding dress were nearly done. Their song list had been chosen and vetted and drafted and eventually turned in.

But today, they were working on making one last, incredibly important wedding-related choice, and while Annie was fairly sure which direction they were going, it still required further research -- which was why she was perched up on her kitchen counter next to the box of cake samples she and Diego had brought home with them, idly picking at a very rich, chocolate cube of cake. Had they just spent a couple hours trying cake already? Yes. Didn't mean Annie was, like, done yet.

"I feel like I'm gonna need a bib no matter what we go with," she commented.

But she was still gonna eat the hell out of this chocolate sample, even if she was kind of thinking no thanks on chocolate for the actual thing. Something lighter. Maybe layers of something lighter.

[for the fiancé! and on that note -- invitations have totally handwavily gone out, and if you think you were invited to this wedding, you totally were.]

"Wouldn't every day be a sex day on our calendar?" They were in for a real shock after they had kids.

No kidding.

"I think the idea is that you put it on the calendar to give yourselves something to look forward to if you're, like, too busy and married to make time for each other."

Which was not a problem either of them had ever had, even in the middle of being stalked by a super-murderer, so they were probably okay there.

"Would we have to pick a codeword for it?" Diego asked, lifting his eyebrows. "Just in case our calendar falls into the wrong hands?"

"That's such a smart idea," Annie decided, leaning up for another kiss to celebrate Diego's genius and sliding an arm around his back to keep him close while she was at it. "Something that doesn't look like anything to anyone else, but we'd know. Maybe like...'dance practice.'"

[knife_bender]

Diego laughed. "Babe, everyone is going to know what dance practice means. It should be an activity nobody wants to join you on...like going to the post office."

"Ooh, the post office," Annie replied, giving him some exaggerated bedroom eyes (and maybe trying not to laugh, a little) because, like, what an inspiration. "I'll help you with your package. You can lick my stamp. Perfect code word."

Well that only made Diego laugh more. "Oh god, dirty postal talk, please, no."

"What, is the post office," and yes, Annie absolutely dropped her voice to as husky as she could manage, "too sexy to use as a code word now?"

It did not help that by the time she got to 'sexy' she actually dissolved into giggles.

"I mean, like, now the mail is ruined." Or, again: enhanced?

"Absolutely ruined," Diego agreed. "But I still want it to be the codeword, because sexy mail is hilarious."

They were going to be going to the post office a looooooooooooot.

Maybe multiple times a day, even.

"Ooh, what about Sundays?" Annie realized with a slight frown, as though she was really thinking about this. "Or federal holidays? I mean, can we still use the code those days?"

[knife_bender]

"Absolutely," Diego said. "Anybody looking that closely at our calendar needs to mind their business."

[defenderofdesmoines]

"You know, babe," Annie noted with a smile, shifting so she could slide both arms up around Diego's neck, "I just remembered I have a letter I need to mail."

Okay, it clearly worked better as a written code. But at least she was going for cute rather than deliberately hilarious about it.

"Oh yeah?" Diego asked, trying to contain his smile. "An important letter?"

[defenderofdesmoines]

"A very important letter," Annie assured him, her own smile widening. "Like, so important that I definitely need help."

You know how sometimes it took two people to mail a letter?

[knife_bender]

"I would love to help you mail your letter," he said, leaning in for a kiss to (hopefully) cover up how silly that sentence was.

At least everyone here was being silly on purpose.

Case in point: "I think I left it in the bedroom," Annie noted helpfully as she pulled back from the kiss just enough to move to get down from the counter so she could lead the way to the bedroom.

Where, you know, she did her correspondence. Obviously.

Oh yeah, she probably had a writing desk and everything. With a quill and inkwell.

"We better go check," Diego said, following her dutifully. "Make sure the envelope is sealed, the address written correctly..."

"The return address written on there correctly," Annie added, actually turning to walk backwards so she could keep smiling at him -- and, while she was at it, going ahead and peeling her shirt off.

Just seemed like a good idea?

"This might even be a letter that needs two stamps, Diego." Annie never mailed anything besides Christmas and birthday cards and, recently, a batch of wedding invitations. Was it a thing to use two stamps? Whatever, go with her on this.

Diego followed Annie's lead and stripped off his own shirt, tossing it aside. "Two stamps? It must be very important."

Or weighed a lot. This analogy was getting away from them.

Honestly, if it weighed that much, they should probably just pay for postage separately anyway.

"It's so important," Annie agreed, knowing nothing about how postage actually worked, but giving Diego a smile nonetheless as she reached their bedroom doorway and, still walking backwards, reached up to unclasp her bra and toss it aside.

Diego moved to catch up to Annie, wrapping his arms around her so he could press his bare chest against hers. "Where should we look first?"

"Hmm," Annie hummed thoughtfully, sliding an arm up around Diego's neck and giving a little unconscious shiver of delight at feeling his skin against hers. "I'm actually pretty sure I didn't leave it in the bed itself."

Which was both creative as far as what was actually happening here, but also probably a good practice for theoretical, supposedly very important documents of any sort.

"But are you positive?" Diego asked, ducking his head down to mouth at her neck.

[defenderofdesmoines]

"You're making it hard to think," she accused lightly. (To think about the letter that didn't exist, yes.) But if he was going to do that, Annie was going to make it hard for Diego to think, and don't mind her gently -- but firmly -- moving to press him into the nearest wall, using her body and strength to pin him.

Well now it was hard for him to think. He was totally into this, as evidenced by the soft noise he made when his back hit the wall. "I'm just trying to be helpful."
